Cybersecurity interviews

Security interviews mix fundamentals, a scenario or two, and how you communicate risk to people who aren't in security. Be ready to show your reasoning, not just the answer.

ResumePilot's own guide. It says what holds across employers; for one employer's rounds and reply times, open a job's prep card in Your resumes.

Role guides, the course library and a prep card for every saved job come with Scout and up. The general guide is free for everyone.

Fundamentals they test

  • Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(S) and TLS, what a normal connection looks like, and how you'd spot an odd one.
  • Operating systems: Windows event logs, Active Directory and Kerberos basics; Linux processes, permissions and logs.
  • Identity: MFA, SSO, OAuth/OIDC at a high level, and common attacks on each (phishing, token theft, password spraying).
  • Cloud: the shared responsibility model, IAM roles and policies, logging (CloudTrail, Azure activity logs) and common misconfigurations.
